Welcome to the www.jaymaggio.com website! I first would like to thank all of my family, friends and
art patrons for your gracious support over the years. Without you I would not have the encouragement to pursue my career
as an artist. Many, many thanks!
For those of you that don't know me "a big hello!" Thanks
very much for visiting my website. I am a full time artist living in Dallas, Texas. I work primarily in oils,
oil on canvas and the primary subject of my paintings are trees, most often set against a cloudless sky in colorful fields,
rolling prairies or hills. My paintings are very much like portraits of trees that specially appeal to me.
Most of the trees used as the subject of my paintings were photographed by me in
various parts of southern Louisiana. Others are from Texas, New Mexico, Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL and various parts
of Italy. The paintings are a homage to my past and present environments, while some are also influenced by places I
have traveled. The trees from Louisiana, many from my hometown area of New Roads and Pointe Coupee, represent my past, while
the solid blue skies and the rolling prairies are much like north Texas where I have lived for the past 18 years.
I do my best to paint the trees as realistic as I am capable. A special combination
of oil paint and medium allows me to create a special textured effect. This requires the use of paint brushes with very
few hairs. I will sometimes shave or cut off hairs of some brushes to obtain a desired effect. My paintings can
be best described as "surreal landscapes" with an almost "pointillist" application.
Although I appreciate being compared to other artist I strive to be original. The images here cannot really
reflect the great amount of detail and texture of the paintings. I very much encourage you at some point to visit a
gallery that represents my work so that you might see firsthand the detail.
Many thanks for visiting
my website,
Jay Maggio
